Titanic's Keys to the Past needed new box art. Using assets from the developer, I was able to create a reflection of the sunken Titanic. The one missing piece in the asset folder was the iceberg, which I happily painted in. Happy little icebergs.
There are times in one’s professional career when you need to take matters into your own hands. In the case of package design, that’s what I have to do. I literally have to print out my design to hold, because viewing something solely on a monitor can seem completely different from printed work. There are times I work on packaging and the accompanying assets are not adequate. I learned that being patient with a sense of urgency is important. Asking developers, art departments, marketing departments for assets sometimes could take days, and in business speak, days are forever, and that’s money! There were occasions, time was not the issue and I was afforded the opportunity to illustrate my own assets. And when the time was not afforded, I found other ways. Communicating with a team, and setting deadlines for others is a great way to get things done. But remember to do it kindly, patience with a sense of urgency.
I was given the task to design this box which had two games in one box. The problem was "Farm Mystery" was lacking a printable image of their hero. Fortunately, I saw it as a chance to use my illustration skills. I successfully painted the hero character to match the style of the other hero character in tandem.
The Cradle of Egypt contained for games in one box. The same challenge as above. Cradle of Persia and Rome were missing printable characters. I had the joy of illustrating them.
I was tasked with composing the amaray cover for Gas Guzzlers, a high octane racing game, filled with power ups and explosions. I used provided assets from the developer. The most dynamic rendering of the hero car had guns pointed straight at the viewer. To appease ESRB standards, I painted out the guns and added in smoke along with other objects.
